The Sarracenia or trumpet pitcher plant, North American pitcher plant,

There are a huge number of different types of Sarracenia and hybrids / crosses between the species, all with their properties and qualities. But the care of all these pitcher plants remains almost the same.

Care Basic:

  1. Always give rainwater, demineralized water without perfume or Osmosis water, also available in our shop.

  2. Plant the sarracenia in unfertilized Blonde peat or regular peat with or without perlite or use our home mix.

  3. The sarracenia must always be in a container with water and kept wet, so they are swamp plants. In the winter you should keep them moist but not wet, to prevent any mould.

  4. Place the plants in a sunny spot outside or in a conservatory, you can also build a marsh for the plants or place them in a part of the pond. It is best to consult us, we will design or provide the optimal place on your pond or in your garden.

  5. The plants are 100% hardy and need a cold period, but if you keep them outside in a small pot they can still freeze to bits.
